Final State Interactions and ε ′ / ε : A Critical Look
نویسنده
چکیده
We critically analyze recent attempts to include final state interaction (FSI) effects in the calculation of the CP violating ratio ε/ε. In particular the approach of using the Muskhelishvili-Omnès equation for the decay amplitudes is examined. We find that the values of the dispersive correction factors are very sensitive to initial conditions which are, at present, out of control, and demonstrate that the claimed large enhancement of ε/ε through FSI is questionable. We propose, instead, a different implementation of this approach which may be useful to lattice determinations of weak amplitudes.

Strong Enhancement of ε/ε Through Final State Interactions
We quantify the important effect of strong final state interactions in the weak K → 2π amplitudes, using the measured π–π phase shifts with J = 0 and I = 0, 2. The final rescattering of the two pions provides a strong enhancement of the ∆I = 1/2 amplitude, which so far has been neglected in the theoretical predictions of ε′/ε. This correction increases the Standard Model prediction of ε′/ε to v...

Strong final state interaction (FSI) effects can play a central role in the Standard Model prediction of weak K → 2π matrix elements. Here, I discuss how FSI's affect the direct CP violation parameter ε ′ /ε by solving the Omnès problem for the necessary K → 2π amplitudes. The main results of this analysis have been reported in a previous paper 1 and are further discussed in Refs. 2,3. The resu...

I discuss the rôle of strong final state interactions (FSI) in K → 2π decays. In this case strong FSI effects can be resummed [1,2] by solving the Omnès problem for K → 2π amplitudes. Implications for the CP conserving ∆I = 1/2 ratio and the direct CP violation parameter ε ′ /ε are also discussed.

We quantify the important effect of strong final state interactions in the weak K → 2π amplitudes, using the measured π-π phase shifts with J = 0 and I = 0, 2. The main results of this analysis, with their implications for ε/ε and the ∆I = 1/2 rule, have been already presented in a previous paper [1]. Here we provide a detailed formal derivation of those results and further discuss the Standard...
متن کاملThe Role of Final State Interactions in Ε/ε
The CP–violating ratio ε/ε constitutes a fundamental test for our understanding of flavour–changing phenomena. The present experimental world average,1 Re (ε/ε) = (19.3 ± 2.4) · 10, provides clear evidence for a non-zero value and, therefore, the existence of direct CP violation. The theoretical prediction has been rather controversial since different groups, using different models or approxima...
